OBITUARY

James R. Doonan a pioneer farmer and stock raiser Of Preemption, past away on Monday morning at 5:30 at the home of his son Ben after a five week illness of heart trouble. Mr Doonan had been in failing health since his critical illness last January when he suffered a sever attack of pneumonia. Up until that time he had always been in robust health and his January illness was the first time in his life that he had ever called a physician to care for him. Mr Doonan was affianced with St. John's Episcopal church and with the Enniskillener Orange Lodge No. 132 and had held numerous offices in both. On his 80th birthday his brother Orangemen gave a party in his honor at the Lodge Hall which he greatly enjoyed. James R. Doonan was born on Feb 20th, 1847 in county Fermanagh, Ireland. He came to America at the age of 23 years and settled in this commuity. On Feb 29, 1874, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Blakley of Preemption. The new home was made on the farm southwest of the village. Six children were born to this union. Christopher B. died in 1919 and Thomas Raymond died in infancy. Mrs Doonan past away in 1917. Those left to mourn are two daughters, Mrs. Sadie Peterson and Mrs. Norah Coyne of Bowling, two sons Benjamin and Surart of Preemption, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Hess of Harlan, Iowa. Since coming to America his entire life had been spent in Preemption with the exception of a few years residence in Reynolds where he owned a fine home. During the past summer he had been living with his children. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning from the home of his son Ben at 10:00 and from St. John's church at 10:30. His pastor Rev. Joh Neal, officiated. Interment was made in the Preemption cemetery and six grandsons acted as pall bearer.
