DEATH NOTICE

LUTHER HUTCHINSON - Luther Hutchinson, 76, of Scottsdale, Ariz, formerly of Deloit, died May 7 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 pm Friday at the Pfannebecker funeral Home with the Rev Alice Bolen officiating. Interment is in the Deloit Cemetery. There is no visitation.

Survivors include one daughter, Sally (Mrs Dennis) Carney of Des Moines; and two grandchildren.

Luther Clarence Hutchinson was born January 4, 1919 at Denison, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Abbie Winey Hutchinson.

He was raised on a farm and attended rural school and was later graduated from Denison High School. While growing up on the farm Luther was veiy active in 4-H and held various offices and won several medals and awards including the Grand Champion of Crawford County Fair six years and Grand Champion at Omaha Aksarben two years. After his graduation he went on to Chicago, Illinois and attended the American Technical Institute studying Business Administration.

In 1941 Luther went overseas to serve his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corps where he was a P.O.W. for two and a half years.

After he served his country Luther returned to Deloit where he owned and operated the Deloit Mercantile Company until 1954 when he moved to Ida Grove and began working as a District Supervisor for the Des Moines Register and later as a State Sales Manager for Arkfeld Manufacturing Company. In 1958 he opened the Hutchinson s Flower Shoppe in Ida Grove and also sold Real Estate there until 1968.

After leaving Ida Grove in 1968 Luther remained in the sales field in Kansas City, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Phoenix. He resided in Scottsdale, Arizona and it was at his home there that his death occurred. He had attained the age of 76 years, 4 months and 3 days.

Luther was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Sally Carney and her husband Dennis of Des Moines, Iowa and two grandchildren, Alissa and Joshua Carncy of Des Moines, Iowa, and other relatives and friends.
