Event | OBITUARY October 10, 1945 (3 days after death)DEATHS JOHNSTON - Funeral services for Miss Emma Johnston, age 81, were held Tuesday afternoon at the St John's Episcopal church west of Preemption with the Rev Hanner of Rock Island in charge, assisted by Rev Savage of Moline. Clarence Clark sang with Mrs Richard Ash accompanying. Rev J C Gearhart of the Reynolds Methodist church officiated at the service in the home. Burial was made at the Preemption cemetery. J C Moffitt, T R Sederquist, R G Davidson, E D Smithe, H B Wait and Ernest Doonan wee the pallbearers. Serving as flower attendants were Mrs Marion Eickson, Mrs Glen Moffitt, Mrs George Gauley and Mrs Dale Moffitt. Miss Johnston passed away at her home in Reynolds on Sunday afternoon, Oct 7, following an illness of more than three years. Several nieces and nephews survive. They were devoted to her and she spent many happy days of her declining years in their homes. Last of a family of 11, she was born Sep 28, 1864, near Preemption, the youngest child of John and Jane Johnston. Her five sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. She lived on a farm near Preemption until moving to Reynolds with her sister over 50 years ago. She remained a faithful member of St John's Episcopal church until her death; was affiliated with the Preemption Idlewild Chapter, O E S, having served as its Worthy Matron; and was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs John Johnston of Chicago, T R Johnston of Kankakee and Mrs Mary Benshoff of Davenport.
