Last of a family of 11, she was born Sep 28, 1864, near Preemption, the youngest child of John and Jane Johnston. Her five sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. She lived on a farm near Preemption until moving to Reynolds with her sister over 50 years ago. She remained a faithful member of St John's Episcopal church until her death; was affiliated with the Preemption Idlewild Chapter, O E S, having served as its Worthy Matron; and was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs John Johnston of Chicago, T R Johnston of Kankakee and Mrs Mary Benshoff of Davenport.

"Aunt Em," as she was known by both young and old, will be greatly missed by everyone in this community.
