OBITUARY | January 16, 1908 (6 days after death) LANESBORO Mrs Joseph Johnston passed away at her home five miles south east of Lanesboro early Friday evening at the age of 65. She had been in poor health for some time and her aged husband, seven sons and three daughters were with her when the end came. The funeral was held Sunday from the M E church, Rev J J Varley officiating. Interment was made in the Lake City cemetery. The funeral was the largest ever seen in Lanesboro. We extend our sympathy. column 3, same paper Among those present at Mrs J Johnston's funeral were Ira Hulet, Arthur Everett and wife of Boone, Mr and Mrs Gunningham of Des Moines and Mr and Mrs Jones of Lohrville. The Carroll Herald, Wednesday, January 15, 1908, page 1, column 4 OBITUARY. Anne Rusk was born in county Farmanna, Ireland on the 4th day of March, l843, and died at her home in Carroll county, Iowa on January 10, 1908, aged 64 years, 10 months and 6 days. She was converted at an early age and joined the Episcopal church. On September 20, 1865 she was united in marriage to Joseph Johnston. Eleven children blessed this union, one son, Richard, died in infancy. They immigrated to the state of Illinois in 1870, and came to Iowa in 1882. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, seven sons and three daughters. John W. Johnston of Lanesboro, Mrs. Ira M. Hulett, of Boone; Mrs. Samuel Jones of Lohrville; Robert, Henry and Samuel of Lake City, and Joseph, George, Thomas and Eliza at home. She also leaves two brothers and one sister. The funeral was held at the M. E. church at Lanesboro Sunday. Jan. 12, the services being conducted by Rev. Varley of that church. The hymns, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "It is Well With My Soul", and a solo, "Some Sweet Day" were beautifully sung. The bearers were Messrs. D. A. Long, A. P. Johnson, F. McCoy, A. D. Evarts, George Lane and J. D. Hinkley. Interment was made at Lake City cemetery. Death Has entered in our circle, And claimed our beloved mother. Led her through the heavenly portal, Bade her cease from earthly care. All her pain and sorrow are over, And she waits for us afar; For she whispered as she entered, "Leave the pearly gates ajar."
