GAULEY - In a Davenport funeral chapel services were held on Tuesday afternoon for Mrs Joseph A Gauley, age 70. Eastern Star officers had charge of the ceremonies. Burial was made at the village cemetery in Reynolds where a large number of local friends were present.
After a long period of invalidism death came to Mrs Gauley at 3:50 pm on September 14 at her home in Davenport where she and her husband had lived for many years.
Carrie Johnston, a daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Johnston, was born near Reynolds on Oct 28, 1870. On Feb 20, 1895, she was married in this village to Joseph A Gauley who survives her.
For seven years they lived on their farm south of Reynolds and then moved into the large residence which had been erected in this village by Mrs Gauley's parents. From here they moved about 25 years ago into Davenport where they had since lived, excepting four years in California.
Before her health failure, Mrs Gauley had been active in Trinity Episcopal church, the Eastern Star Chapter, the White Shrine and other Davenport organizations.
